There's plenty to love about May in the Methow Valley (even one that's scarily dusty). We're all riding that flower wave upward from the valley floors and remembering where we keep our T-shirts in the closet. The brave have already started showing off their pasty legs, painted their toenails, and begun sporting seasonal favorites like Birkenstocks, Chacos, and Keens (I'm sure other sandals exist, but perhaps not in this valley?).

The flowers and the sunlight in May are easy to love, but I'd like to hone in on one of the unsung glories of the month. By the end of winter, coziness becomes stuffiness indoors. The occasional open window in March and April brings a taste of fresh air. Then, in May one of my favorite moments of the year arrives - it's the moment when the thermostat outside aligns perfectly with my own internal thermostat and the windows at home can stay open all day and all night. There's something so liberating about clean, fresh air flowing freely through every corner of your life. That's what spring is, it's a big breath of fresh air. Breathe deeply, and fill your lungs with the endless possibilities of the season!
