Walk a Mile & Clean-Up the Hwy

Walk a Mile & Clean-Up the Hwy

When: Wed. May 27, 8:30am-11:30am

Where: meeting location will be emailed when you register

Twice a year we clean up our 2-mile section of Highway 20 between Winthrop and Twisp. Volunteers work in pairs and walk up one side of the road for 1/2 mile, picking up trash and recyclables. Then they cross the Hwy and walk back on the other side 1/2 mile. We often find some fascinating stuff, including money! The work isn't exactly strenuous but it does involve walking on uneven ground, sometimes along a guard-rail, and lots of bending over to pick things up. We'll pair you up, or bring a friend or spouse. It's not glamorous but it is very satisfying!

When you click the registration link, you will notice that registration for Methow Conservancy volunteer events is happening through a Volunteer Methow test site. We are very excited about this!

The Methow Valley Fund of the Community Foundation of North Central Washington has offered to support a re-boot and expansion of the former Volunteer Methow website that shut down in July 2025. For 7 years, Volunteer Methow matched community organizations in need of help with community members who wanted to share their time and expertise.

In the time since Volunteer Methow has gone dark, organizations have been seeking a new solution to connect with volunteers in the community. The Methow Valley Fund has been working to understand what nonprofits need and what volunteers seek, so that a new Volunteer Methow website can be launched into success.

Website developers have donated their time to redesign the site. Now we’re ready to begin testing it, and YOU are part of this test. We are hoping that registration and communications go smoothly for you, but when inevitable glitches appear, we want to hear from you what they are so that the software engineers can fix them. At each work party, we’ll ask you for your feedback on how the test Volunteer Methow website is working for you.

We hope that you’ll want to register for Volunteer Methow, which will eventually be used by most, if not all, of the nonprofits in the valley. But if that doesn’t work for you and you still want to volunteer for this event, just email Daniel@MethowConservancy.org and he’ll sign you up for this event. Either way, we appreciate your help!
