Each month in the Methow Valley offers something worth savoring. Something both special and ephemeral. Colorful larches, blooming flowers, skiing from town, biking in the alpine, a favorite bird who's just passing through. There's a temptation to wish for an extension on these special moments, though I'd argue that ephemerality is what gives them gravity. For me, the March entry into this category is summed up well by the image above: dirt roads, snowy peaks. Before long, the mountain peaks will become a beautiful backdrop for a gallery of green hills and bright flowers (some of which are beginning to bloom in this very moment!). But in this moment of minimal visual distraction, the peaks are the main exhibit, never looking sharper than they do in March.
