First Tuesday: In the Field at Beaver Food Forest Farm
When: Tuesday, September 2, at 6pm.
Where: 423 Twisp Carlton Road (Get Directions)
Join the us on Twisp Carlton Road to see how Julie Vanderwal of Beaver Food Forest Farm is growing materials for ecological restoration, including future beaver food. At Beaver Food Forest, food production and ecosystem health are intertwined! You'll see willow, aspen, cottonwood, and other species being grown to someday support beavers and other wildlife in our local watersheds. You'll learn how luffa and birdhouse gourds being grown to help improve local water quality without the conventional use of plastics for floating treatment wetlands. You'll see how nursery container plants look when grown differently from most potted plants in North America: without potting media ingredients extracted from peat wetlands, without mining, and without shipping materials (like coconut coir) across oceans. The farm also has various native plants already growing in-ground at the farm, providing habitat for beneficial insects and birds, and serving as local sources of seeds and cuttings for propagation in the nursery. And, not to forget the human food, there are also black currants, aronia berries, elderberries, Saskatoon berries, and vegetables, too! So much to learn; see you there!
This event is free and open to the public. Reach out to Bridger with any questions about the event.
