Small Scale Biochar Demonstration Burn
When: Wednesday, April 8 from 9am-12pm
Where: Methow Conservancy Office (Get Directions)
Join the Methow Conservancy and North Cascades Prescribed Burn Association (NCPBA) for a hands-on demonstration of small-scale biochar production. This demonstration will take place at the Methow Conservancy office and will help us consume small-diameter, dead and downed wood from around our office campus. We will be using a small biochar kiln welded by valley local Dan Thrush. The process will be stewarded by NCPBA leaders and Methow Conservancy staff. Nate Anderson of the US Forest Service will also be in attendance as a follow up to his First Tuesday talk on biochar the night before. If you have specific questions about biochar production, this is a great chance to converse with experts.
This event is free and open to the public. The program is informal; we hope you’ll drop in, say hello, and perhaps make a s’more (BYO supplies) if you feel inspired. If you’d like to help load the kiln, we recommend bringing cotton/wool/leather gloves since synthetic materials and flames don’t mix well. Reach out to Bridger with any questions.
