April 2026 Backyard Bulletin

April is a month of dual personalities. The first is huffy and blustery. Defined primarily by the annual spring wind that I gladly forget about for 9 months of the year. I don't have much nice to say about wind (so I won't say anything else). The second personality is gentle and inviting. This one's defined by open windows and long evenings. It makes it feel like a crime to be indoors, and marks a key shift in the seasonal tide: the moment when being active is no longer a required source of warmth, and instead you can revel in the opportunity to simply linger outdoors. Perhaps you'll spend a lavish afternoon on a patio in the sun, or take a flower-gilded bike ride where short breaks extend into long conversations. Maybe you'll enjoy the setting sun as you prepare your garden beds for the bounty soon to come, or take a neighborhood dog walk that turns into a much longer stroll. Whatever you do, take your time. It's far too nice out to be rushing back indoors!
